Dark Souls
FromSoftware’s 2009 release Demon’s Souls was one of the most influential games of its time, but Dark Souls turned that into a global sensation. Dark Souls took what worked in Demon’s Souls and expanded on those ideas to create a game that could truly be considered as generation-defining. The dark and murky kingdom of Lordran is filled to the brim with secret pathways and entirely optional zones that hide within the spiraling level design. Players have a lot of freedom in how they choose to build out their character with different weapons and armor sets, and the memorable boss fights are just the icing on top of this delicious experience.
