Far Cry 3
Unusually for the developer, clearing outposts, hunting, claiming supply drops, completing quests, nothing in Far Cry 3 feels like busywork. Instead, finding yourself hunted on a paradisaic island, initially naïve and hunted but growing into seasoned predator is a thrilling journey, and one which is supported instead of inhibited by all the usual side fluff. There’s an argument Far Cry 2 could have made this list instead, but every aspect in Far Cry 3 is excellent and it’s this third iteration’s formula which many developers have been attempting to redevelop ever since.
