S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl blurs real-life nuclear disaster with phantasmagorical themes explored in novella Roadside Picnic and accompanying Andrei Tarkovsky film Stalker to great effect. The radiation contaminated Zone harbours all manner of otherworldly life and reality-bending physics meaning players must tread carefully to ensure survival. Customisation plays a big part here too, with artifacts in the hundreds lying in wait for intrepid explorers. Gunplay is weighty and realistic too, inaccurate rifles a symptom of the toxic terrain.
