THE LAST OF US PART 2
The Last of Us was lightning in a bottle. With a sequel to one of the greatest games of all time – a sequel that many claimed for the longest time was wholly unnecessary, no less – Naughty Dog certainly had their work cut out for them. The Last of Us Part 2 rose to the challenge magnificently though. Not only does it tell a shocking and affecting story with that typical Naughty Dog flair, which is backed by career-defining performances and excellent writing, it is also the developer’s best playing game in a long, long time. The larger levels of The Last of Us Part 2 have been expertly crafted to squeeze out every last drop of potential from the game’s core mechanics, and whether it’s as a linear stealth title or a tense survival horror experience, the game confidently executes all of its ideas with resounding success. No, it’s not entirely perfect – games rarely are – but it’s a game we’re unlikely to stop talking about anytime soon.
