Sonic Jam
When talking about Sonic Jam’s “new” gameplay content, Sonic World comes up significantly short. It was a preview of what a fully 3D Sonic game could be with its mission list and platforming, but felt way too small in scale (which earned it unfavorable comparisons with Mario 64). However, when viewed purely as a compilation and tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Jam is an essential title. It features a treasure trove of concept art, wallpapers, music, character portfolios, and even original Japanese advertisements (which, at the time, many Western fans had never seen).
There was even a trailer for the two-part animated OVA, which exposed many to the brilliance of “Look-a-Like.” If that weren’t enough, Sonic 1 to 3 along with Sonic and Knuckles were included with new difficulty modes, the lock-on tech of Sonic and Knuckles for combining different titles, a “Time Attack” mode and so much more.
