DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION
It’s disheartening to see the Deus Ex franchise in the state it’s in right now, but back in 2011, when Eidos Montreal brought the series back with the excellent Human Revolution, no one could have seen this coming. It had everything you expect to see in a Deus Ex game- excellent, multi-layered level design, absolute freedom of choice, and an intricate web of mechanics that allowed players to approach objectives in multiple ways. Also among its strengths were a riveting narrative and excellent world building, as well as a sleek, stylish cyberpunk visual style. It had its flaws, sure, such as poor boss fights and occasionally faulty AI, but these were easily overshadowed by its many, many strengths.
