Energizer product placement, Remedy’s Alan Wake signalled an unorthodox new direction for the action developer. Its darker themes mesh with a larger character focus, as protagonist Alan Wake attempts to make sense of his wife’s disappearance when vacationing in Bright Falls. The horror and meta-narrative elements also work in concert to deliver a unique third-person experience that sadly didn’t see much. Nevertheless, it remains a classic and noteworthy exclusive for the Xbox 360 at the time.
