No More Gimmicks.
Nintendo’s Wii’s controller was designed around a TV remote control. It was stated that casual people would never pick up and play a game controller. But they may in fact pick up a controller that looked like a television remote. But there were limits. Without purchasing the Wii Motion Plus several years after launch, 1:1 controls just weren’t possible. Then Wii U released with a very large screen, gyroscope, camera, vibration, microphone, etc. just to get ahead of the Wii’s simple mechanics. It proved to be not too popular as the screen quickly drains the battery and the overall weight is substantial. Going back to a standard remote would up Nintendo’s game. Proof of this are the incredible sales of the Gamecube adapter for the Wii U to play Super Smash Bros.
