Mother Brain – Super Metroid
The bait and switch that takes place in the final battle against Mother Brain in Super Metroid leans on the player’s nostalgia for the first game, but when that gigantic dinosaur mech rises from the ground, it’s going to catch anybody off guard. The overwhelming power of the Hyper beam being pulled out as Mother Brain’s ultimate weapon makes all the heavy weaponry that Samus just pumped into her worth so many spitballs as the bounty hunter can no longer even stand up. The tension is only broken when the Super Metroid sacrifices itself, granting Samus the Hyper Beam to decimate her enemy and creating one of the top tier gaming moments ever.
