Father Gascoigne, Viola, and the Young Girl – Bloodborne
Seasoned hunter Father Gascoigne became so drunk on bloodlust during his nightly hunts that he’d forget who his family were, so his wife Viola would play him a tiny music box as an audible aide-memoire. The implication that Father Gascoigne slays Viola on a night she forgot the tiny music box is tragic enough, but the request from the pair’s daughter Young Girl to find her already dead mother heaps further heartrending poignancy. The outcome for Young Girl is upsetting either way too: pass on her mother’s red jewelled brooch and she’ll collapse in hysterics, or, alternatively, direct her to Oedon Chapel or Iosefka Clinic where she’ll fall prey to the Maneater Boar in the former, or transform into a Celestial Minion if a shortcut to the latter is known.
