Middle Earth: Shadow of War
WB Games really doesn’t get enough credit for giving EA a run for their money in how tone deaf they are. When they decided that the pivotal Nemesis system that elevated the previous game, Shadow of Mordor from an Assassin’s Creed ripoff to something legitimately interesting should become fodder for lootboxes, the endgame then had to change completely. Either players would put up with a tedious grind to get the needed orcs to finish the story which popped up out of nowhere, or they would pay up. The game is fun enough right up until it tries to hard to strong-arm your wallet, and removing them long after they stopped making money doesn’t change the balance.
