While we’re all here stuck in the darkest timeline where Kojima and Del Toro didn’t get to make Silent Hills, Capcom valiantly and mostly successfully carried the torch with the soft reboot to their long running horror series, Resident Evil 7, bring the action into first person and shrinking the scope back down to something mostly intimate. Following on from the panned, action focused Resident Evil 6, the return to a game that knew what subtlety meant was hugely refreshing. Until the final bits of the game, when they just couldn’t help themselves, finishing things off with some old baggage roaring back like a gunfight that didn’t fit the tone, Umbrella Corp returning and Chris Redfield himself.
