Hollow Knight’s world stands out not because of any unique twists or mechanics, but purely because of its sheer brilliance. The world of Hallownest is vast, its locations varied, full of sights of desolate beauty, all of which is propped up by excellent art. More importantly, the world design in Hollow Knight is peak metroidvania, with its vast, interconnected world looping around itself and rewarding exploration at every turn. Add to that some of the best, tightest traversal you will ever see in a game, and you have a world that you can lose yourself in for dozens upon dozens of hours.
