While this can work just as many times as it doesn’t, see the last two console releases for The Legend of Zelda for the best case study possible, there’s many cases where innovation for the sake of innovation just didn’t do a game any favours, and can directly lead into other entries on this list like poor initial reception. Fixing what isn’t broken gives us Crash of the Titans and Skylanders featuring some dragon who used to be a big deal. What have they done to you, Spyro?
