REFINED COMBAT SYSTEM
There’s nothing wrong with the combat in Persona as it is, per se. The only issue is that it does get a bit simplistic, especially by the end game. The Shin MegamiTensei inspired 1-More! system works very well, and adds a layer of strategy to the proceedings. Plus, there is a visceral satisfaction to landing All Out Attacks that simply isn’t matched by a whole lot of other games. We just think that the combat can go further. There are a lot of improvements that can be made- for instance, only the main character uses multiple Personas, while other characters are all stuck with their starting one (barring evolutions). Maybe add the ability to switch Personas for everybody (a la Persona 2 and the 3DS spinoff Persona Q). In addition, not getting a Game Over simply because the main character died would also be much appreciated, and would allay a lot of frustration. In general, the game could stand to learn a lot from last year’s Nintendo 3DS game Persona Q, which featured multiple twists on the Persona battle system. We won’t complain if Persona 5 has the exact same combat system as its predecessors- but we’ll be very happy if it manages to iterate on them somehow.
