While Fable 2 doesn’t use emergent systems in the typical fashion that many other games on this list do, it compensates for that with its choice-driven role playing mechanics. Choice in this game isn’t limited to just the story, and the freedom you have to tackle a vast number of activities and tackle most of them in a variety of different ways is what allows players to stamp their authority on this game’s world. The fact that Fable 2 did all that back in 2008, when similar games weren’t all that common, makes it that much more impressive.
