THE ORDER: 1886
Sony’s first party output has been putting out hit after hit these last few years, but in the PS4’s earlier years, things were far less consistent. Take The Order: 1886 for instance- Ready at Dawn’s third person shooter had all the elements to become an early system seller, but it just didn’t do much with its fascinating setting and premise. The generic cover-based combat was a letdown, the campaign was aggressively short, and the narrative didn’t leverage the game’s excellent setting nearly as well as it should have. Sure, The Order: 1886 is still one of the best looking console games of its time, but that was probably the only area where the game managed to rise above mediocrity.
