DEAD SPACE 3
Dead Space 3 came out at a time when EA had grown convinced of two things- there was no market for single player games, and Dead Space wasn’t making the sort of money that they wanted it to. Those two factors collectively led to the mandate that not only Dead Space 3 would have to have a multiplayer mode (which, again, we’re not going to talk about here), but also that it needed to have a wider appeal. And what did that mean? It meant that the horror in one of the best survival horror franchises around was heavily de-emphasized, with Visceral Games instead delivering an action-heavy shooter wearing the unconvincing skin of a horror game. Unsurprisingly, the game failed to impress on either a critical or commercial level. The fact that this disappointing entry led not only to the series’ demise, but also to the closure of Visceral Games will always sting.
