THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: SKYWARD SWORD
When a new Zelda game releases, the entire industry sits up and takes notice, but Skyward Sword in particular was generating a lot of buzz before its release, what with its focus on motion controls, and the fact that it was going to be the first game in the series’ chronology and focus on the creation of the Master Sword. That it ended up delivering one of the most disappointing mainline Zelda experiences ever isn’t exactly a controversial statement. Most (if not all) of those issues stem from the gameplay side of things, with excessively linear design, a barrage of obnoxious and forced tutorials, extremely uneven pacing, and a misguided over-reliance on motion controls. Skyward Sword still has a lot to love – it’s a Zelda game, after all – but it is easily the most underwhelming mainline game in Nintendo’s fabled series.
