When we first see Wario, he’s described as an evil version of Mario. In the second Super Mario Land, Wario brainwashes the various denizens of Mario Land, making him the ruler and Mario the enemy. But why does he hate Mario so much? As explained in a short comic in Nintendo Power, Mario was a real jerk to Wario in their childhood. From constantly getting Wario into mishaps to mocking him, Mario just couldn’t stop being a jerk even as a child. What did Mario say at the end of it all? To simply let it bygones be bygones. At this point, we might as well cheer for Wario.
