Super Meat Boy
Let it be known that The Binding of Isaac is one of the best rogue-like dungeon crawlers currently available today, even though it’s supremely challenging. Team Meat’s Super Meat Boy was different though. When it came out, we were still used to the cushy little Call of Duty-esque escapades where the highest difficulty was Veteran.
We had heard about the insanity that was Demon’s Souls. Super Meat Boy threw us right into the platforming grinder with difficult levels, straight up murderous obstacles and an almost punishing retro design. It was deigned the game for those wanting a challenge and though not as unfair as many platformers today, Meat Boy stood as a testament at the time that the old-school 2D platformer was far from dead.
