Zack’s Farewell – Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7
The tale of Zack and Cloud is one of intertwined memories and twisted pasts. We only learn properly about it in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 – following the defeat of Sephiroth, Zack and Cloud went on the run from Shinra. The latter is catatonic following all of the experimentation but Zack keeps talking to him, encouraging him and keeping them alive. When Zack has his last stand against a bunch of Shinra’s forces and lays dying, Cloud finally comes to and speaks with his friend. That last encounter is perhaps one of the most memorable moments in RPG history. “For the both of us, you’re gonna live. You’ll be… my living legacy. My honor, my dreams… they’re yours now.”
