Procedural Regeneration Always Provides Unique Maps and Infinite Worlds
Procedural generation has been a thing for a while now, as Minecraft and Terraria will attest. However, it was No Man’s Sky that pushed the narrative of having massive, super unique worlds with its algorithm. The game’s launch turned out to be a lot more sobering and even with all the updates released thus far, it’s not uncommon to see a number of similar worlds. This isn’t to say procedural generation doesn’t have its uses when it comes to generating terrain and objects, which can then be further iterated upon and improved. But expectations might need to be adjusted if one expects an unlimited number of worlds or maps that are totally unique from each other.
