The Next Mercenaries
The Mercenaries franchise was developer Pandemic Studios’ finest works to date, and while its brand of chaotic open-world gameplay wasn’t perfect by any means – it was certainly enjoyable in more ways than one. But with sequels reporting declining profits and the ever-shifting trends of the industry, Mercenaries was put on indefinite hold. But now it seems that the time is right for the franchise to make a comeback, and the series can take plenty of inspiration from recent contemporaries like Teardown that tackle somewhat similar themes. Current-gen consoles have the required power to simulate detailed destruction mechanics and large open worlds, so a new Mercenaries game could really provide a huge upgrade over its predecessors.
