PROTAGONIST WHO ASKS STUPID QUESTIONS

metal gear solid 1

For all their faults, amnesiac protagonists do serve a purpose- as I mentioned, they’re a plot device. They can ask even the most basic questions about the world they live in and the things they see, because they don’t have any memory of anything, so from their perspective, these aren’t really stupid questions- that way, the game can communicate to the player what these things are. But when a protagonist hasn’t lost their memory, there’s no reason for them to ask the stupidest questions ever. Solid Snake is a super-agent who’s sent to undertake a supremely dangerous task that might spell utter doom for millions upon failure- and yet he’s baffled when he sees a security camera. What did you expect, Snake? What’s next? Looking at the terrorist genome soldiers and being shocked that they have *gasp* guns?
