Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver managed to achieve the peak of what can be achieved with UI in turn based games- and then every subsequent game since has been a step back from that. UIs in Pokemon Black/White, Black 2/White 2, X/Y, and OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire were unnecessarily obtuse, and a lot of things weren’t immediately apparent. That changes in Sun/Moon, which may have the best UI the series has had yet. All functions and information that you may need is right there, on hand, and you never have to go digging in menus unnecessarily looking for something.
