BIG FRANCHISES GOING SILENT
Sadly, not all major franchises had a good time in the last decade. While some were flying high thanks to radical reinventions or powerful comebacks, others sort of just… faded away. Fans have been begging for a new Splinter Cell game, but since 2013’s Blacklist, the series has been radio silent. Mass Effect’s big step forward after the original trilogy didn’t go very well with Andromeda, and it seems like the next one won’t be out for a while. Deus Ex made a memorable comeback with Human Revolution, but with the much less successful Mankind Divided, it was put back on ice. Metal Gear Solid went through a very tumultuous period with Hideo Kojima leaving Konami, and now we don’t know if we’ll ever see another mainline game in the series again, especially with Konami seemingly no longer having any interest in making actual games anymore. Prince of Persia was another name in that list until not that long ago, but we’re getting a Sands of Time remake very soon… let’s hope that does well and we get to see more Prince of Persia game down the line.
