Requiring Exotic Shards to Infuse Exotics

The Infusion system in Destiny isn’t all that bad, save for all the materials, marks, Motes of Light and whatnot that are required to level up your favourite gear/weapons. There’s also the fact that you won’t be a hundred percent sure at times what the final Light level will be. But requiring Exotic shards to infuse Exotics? Why in the world do you need to constantly feed Exotic shards into one Exotic? It’s even worse now that Xur doesn’t even sell Exotic Shards (unless you’re in the mood to buy a single piece of Exotic gear with more Strange Coins and then dismantle it).
