When the Normandy SR-2 is attacked by the Collectors while Shepard and his crew aren’t around, it rests on Joker (with EDI’s help) to save them. The problem is that Joker suffers from Vrolik Syndrome where his bones are incredibly brittle. Walking is a tough enough task, forget fighting. Having to link EDI to the Normandy’s power core and eventually purge the ship of the Collectors is thus an exercise in both stealth and luck.
