15 Video Game Gimmicks That Should Be Retired As Soon As Possible

Some gimmicks and some just go but others just stick around, much to our annoyance.

As anyone who’s been forced to watch a 3D film or fumbled with their touch-screen will tell you, gimmicks can oftentimes be annoying. Whatever happened to the good old days of 16-bit graphics, Nirvana and pizza rolls? The current trends in the gaming industry are all well and good but here are 15 video game gimmicks that we’re just plain sick of.

Motion Controls

Motion controls always seemed gimmicky from the outset. It didn’t help that the majority of first wave games that utilized them were fairly shallow. Yes, we had fun with Wii Sports and Kinect was kind of decent in some ways. Nowadays though, PlayStation Move is pretty much a mainstay for PlayStation VR users and the Switch’s JoyCons are for boxing in ARMS or attempting to play games with a friend. To say motion controls have fallen from their once-revolutionary threshold is an understatement.
