Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds has got off to a stellar start where sales are concerned, selling over 8 million units worldwide in its first three days, and nearing 1.4 million peak concurrent players on Steam. The action RPG has enjoyed a similarly impressive start in Japan, topping Famitsu’s latest weekly physical sales charts for the region with over 601,000 units sold upon release.

Though those numbers are, of course, unquestionably impressive, in comparison to Monster Hunter’s previous mainline releases, it is a decided drop-off nonetheless. In comparison, Monster Hunter Rise sold 1.35 million units in Japan upon release, while Monster Hunter World sold 1.35 million.

Meanwhile, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which topped charts last week, occupies the seventh and eighth spots in this weeks charts, selling over 9,000 units and over 7,000 units on PS5 and PS4 respectively.

On the hardware front, the PS5 has see a massive boost, courtesy of Monster Hunter. In what’s been a rarity in Japan for years, the Switch isn’t the bestselling console of the week as a result. The PS5 sits at nearly 109,000 units sold, compared to the Switch’s 45,000-plus sales.
