 Super Metroid – Fighting Mother Brain

This one’s a little less explicitly scary than anything else on this list, but it still deserves a place. Super Metroid did a great job of creating an unsettling atmosphere, and all that caps off with an incredibly creepy boss fight in Mother Brain. It’s this horrible chicken monster with a giant brain leaching out of its skull and a giant, budging eye. The music is subtle, and the way the head wildly gyrates up and down in ways you don’t expect throws you off your game. Just look at it, look at it!
