METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN- THAT FINAL TWIST
Our final three entries in this feature are all going to be about Metal Gear – which is no surprise, considering that Hideo Kojima has almost mastered the art of trolling his fans over the last two decades.
So let’s kick off the final segment of this feature with the most recent incident when Metal Gear Solid trolled its players. Everyone expected The Phantom Pain to be the definitive Big Boss story Metal Gear fans had been waiting for, the story that bridged the gap between Peace Walker and the original Metal Gear, the story that chronicled the legendary Big Boss’ fall from grace. What we got was… well, not that. The Phantom Pain is one hell of a game, but it’s also not what fans wanted. After forty-five hours of playing through a story that at times makes little to no sense, and rarely answers any of the larger questions of the series, the game reveals to you that this entire time, you haven’t even been playing as Big Boss. Actually, Venom Snake, the man you’ve been playing as, is nothing but a clone of Big Boss. Kojima truly played us like a damn fiddle.
