METAL GEAR SOLID 2- PLAYING AS RAIDEN
Next up on today’s special on How Hideo Kojima Keeps Toying With The Emotions Of All His Fans is the infamous bait and switch from Metal Gear Solid 2. You know what we’re talking about. In the lead up to the game’s launch, Kojima and Konami were very careful about every second of footage they showed, letting us all believe in our naivety that we will once again be playing as the awesome Solid Snake throughout the entirety of Sons of Liberty. When the game finally came out, it turned out that all the footage involving Snake that had been shown was basically just the prologue of this game, and that you play all of MGS2 as this new, rookie FOXHOUND agent known Raiden. And sure, thanks to Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Rising, Raiden has turned into a very, very cool character. But back then he was a bit of a wimp, especially compared to David Hayter’s Solid Snake. We have to admit it, Kojima. You’re… pretty good.
