Side Missions For The Sake of Including Them
Open worlds come with the promise of plenty of activities to do and places to see. But sometimes this content is simply shoehorned in. This leads to games like Metal Gear Solid V featuring a plethora of side quests that don’t actually add much to the game. We go into games like MGS V to experience the story, not rescue nameless soldiers from heavily armed compounds or fultoning armor tanks. The Phantom Pain had a ton of side missions which had no narrative reason whatsoever and were just present to inflate the game with content.
