More of a strategy RPG with rogue-like and deck-building mechanics, Shogun Showdown rewards positioning and proper skill combinations as you clear out threats, upgrade skills, and push ever closer to the titular Shogun. Oftentimes, it offers no frills, but the focus on the tight gameplay and broken builds, with new characters and other unlocks, carries the experience in surprisingly enjoyable ways. This year offered no shortage of rogue-likes, but Shogun Showdown’s sleek combat shouldn’t be missed.
