Journey

Flower has got to have one of the most arresting concepts in gaming, making its spiritual successor, Journey, one to keep your eyes on. Not only does it seem to have a cool concept, but Journey also seems to have a really unique aesthetic to it as well. Just check out some of the videos to see what I mean.

Grand Theft Auto 5

There was a time when Grand Theft Auto consisted of poorly rendered sprites and a dodgy bird’s eye view perspective. Times are different now though, with the fully rendered worlds of GTA offering some of the most critically acclaimed visuals and gameplay in the business. GTA4 looked the business when it first graced our consoles back in 2008, so we can only expect Grand Theft Auto 5 to raise the bar even higher, if and when it hits stores in 2012.

Sly: Thieves In Time

Those uninitiated with Sly’s tight and refined stealth platforming gameplay will be forgiven for just admiring the pretty cel-shading, as it is rather stunning. The Sly Cooper HD collection on PS3 looked better than most PS3 exclusive games, despite being a compilation of HD remakes from the previous generation. With that in mind, we can only begin to imagine how awesome a Sly game built for the PS3 from the ground up will look.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss

The first Uncharted title blew our minds with its slick visuals, and the next two iterations just kept turning the heat up. Though the portable Golden Abyss on Vita might not live up to the same lofty standards, it’s easily one of the best looking hand-held titles ever devised. With all the action and quality of its console brethren, expect Uncharted: Golden Abyss to turn heads when it launches alongside the Vita in February.

Bioshock Infinite

Bioshock is a franchise that always gets people excited, even when sub-par sequels such as Bioshock 2 get released. The upcoming Bioshock Infinite is a true sequel though, with Ken Levine and Irrational Games back to wow us with another carefully crafted game world. Columbia looks every bit as tantalising as Rapture, and it’s sure to be one of the stand out game worlds of 2012.
