47. No offline Split screen/multiplayer mode
One advantage (or disadvantage, depending on which side of the platform war you were on) with consoles over the PC was the ability to play with a friend on the same console and TV. Without a fast internet connection, this is how many gamers grew up on multiplayer gaming in the mid-90s. Nowadays, though, with the advancement of services such as Xbox Live and PSN, games these days shirk away from an offline split screen mode. If someone wants to play co-op mode, they would have to log in from another system and play with their partner through the internet. This is a problem for those who don’t own the same system or aren’t carrying around an extra TV for the occasion. As games evolve, offline split-screen play will eventually be relegated to the past.
