Limited Online Community per Game:
Sure, all the new consoles are probably sold out at this point, but that’s still a relatively small number of people compared to the folks that have the Xbox 360 and the PS3. With committed and dedicated online communities that already exist plenty of folks, even if they have the new hardware they will be using the previous generation consoles to play online.
People are still going to want to game with their friends and they will go back to the previous consoles to do it. Over time the numbers will shift to the new hardware, but that’s not going to happen overnight. The 360 and PS3 have a more developed online community for awhile, with all the games that are out and still scheduled to be out, people aren’t going to be leaving any time soon.
The Experience:
The first generations games being released on new hardware are for the most part ideas that came during the previous generation’s hardware cycle. You’re not going to get an amazingly drastic experience on a new console that you can’t get in the current generation consoles.
It takes time to learn the tricks and pitfalls on new hardware, but we’re likely to hear the same complaints this generation as in previous ones. If you’re one of the few who are prone to complain about such things why worry about it, just stay where you are until a title interests you.
New versions of old hardware:
With the new consoles on their way both Microsoft and Sony are going to be trying to squeeze the last bit of potential out of their current consoles. Microsoft has the new 360 slim that’s available now. Sony has had their slim version available for quite some time now too.
It’s all the power in a smaller package at the “end of life” prices. If you love gaming and are on a limited budget go with a console that has a great library of games, especially an abundance of used titles. If you don’t have one or the other, then getting one of these updated models may be a good idea for you.
