Steam Greenlight was always going to feature troll projects along with offensive ones, and Valve recently took the measure to introduce a $100 fee which they hope will ward off people who aren’t serious.

The recently removed games named “Half-Life 3” and offensive projects named “Best WTC Plane Simulator”. Valve put a lot of faith in people not to abuse the system, but considering it’s a futile attempt to do that, they have learned it the hard way.

With the fee introduction Valve hopes to reduce the number of fake projects by eliminating a lot of people who are just in for the “lulz”.

“I’ve already seen just in the last HOUR: two entries for Mass Effect 3, five various entries for Half Life 3, Left 4 Dead ‘3’, Command and Conquer 1, every single Need for Speed game,” one Steam user said. Via Eurogamer.

“That’s not including patently offensive games that make fun of Africans, Indians, various pro/anti American games [and] a game about 9/11”.

With strict moderation policies they can ensure that Steam Greenlight will function as intended and showcase great content that will eventually end on the service.
