Xbox 720: Xbox headquarters’ security boosted by Microsoft to ensure confidentiality

Yes, you notice the Xbox 720 in the title right? Because we think that is exactly the reason why Microsoft has ramped up the security around their Redmond Campus which hosts the Xbox team. Durango, as the alpha kit is called, has been passed on to specific developers signifying that their next-gen console could launch as early as next year.

This report comes via Geekwire which has learnt that Microsoft has notified their employees that they will be implementing physical security measures and not allowing a lot of people where Xbox research happens.

“The changes will affect Microsoft Studios A, B, C, and D, on the west side of state Route 520, starting early next month with Studio A and rolling out to the other buildings by the end of the month,” Geekwire reports.

“Under the new policy, only employees and vendors in Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business or assigned to the buildings will have open access. Other employees and vendors who need to enter the buildings for business reasons will need to go through an online registration process or register at the buildings as visitors, escorted by another employee with access to the buildings. The changes don’t impact the Commons area in the middle of the Xbox campus.”

This must be exciting times for people who are desperate for next-gen consoles to hit. The Wii U comes out this year, and the Xbox 720 is rumoured to be released next year, with the PS4 scheduled to be released in 2014.

Of course, these rumours can be fake as well, but something tells me the PS4 will be delayed and will be the last console to launch.

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
