G4TV Cancels Attack of the Show, X-Play

Aims to be a more "sophisticated, upscale" channel for men.

The shows that gave us Olivia Munn and some truly awful games journalism have finally decided to pack it in. Well, not really, as the decision has been taken by their parent channel. That’s right: G4TV has finally cancelled their (inexplicably) popular “Attack of the Show” and “XPlay”. The final new episodes for each series are set to air in December, after which G4 will undergo a makeover to make it a more “sophisticated, upscale” channel for men.

Adam Stotsky, recently appointed as G4 general manager, told TV Guide that while the shows have been important and altogether groovy for the network, this is intended as a rebranding exercise to shape the channel closer to the likes of magazine GQ. He does intend to honour their contributions however, with farewell episodes featuring past hosts and guests.

And while it may be somewhat of a sad thing to see these shows end (*cough*notreally*cough*), both have had a nice long run. X-Play debuted in 2003 and has about 1300 episodes, with Attack of the Show premiering in 2005 and running 1700 episodes since.
