The Last of Us multiplayer wont be tacked on, says Naughty Dog

Separate resources for single player and multiplayer.

Uncharted 2’s multiplayer announcement was met with much vitriol by the gaming community, so much that Naughty Dog had to address it personally, but after the beta everyone was proved wrong because the multiplayer component was fantastic.

Now they announced The Last of Us box art and multiplayer recently, and it looks like fans have begun saying the same things because let’s face it, the game mostly will be for a solid single player experience, that’s what people are looking forward to in this game, right?

Here’s what Naughty Dog community manager Arne Meyer had to say regarding the concerns fans have, he has assured that the game’s multiplayer component wont be tacked on.

“We don’t approach MP in any of our games as tacked on. And we also always have separate teams working on the different components so that we can maintain full focus on making SP and MP up to our standards,” he said.

“And we have faith that our MP will stand on it’s own. If we felt like it would be tacked on, we wouldn’t have added it. We want all our game experiences to be of the highest quality and that’s what we work extremely hard to deliver.”

He has also revealed that the studio has set aside separate teams and resources for single player and multiplayer, so one mode wont affect the other negatively.

“MP has never taken away resources from the SP game in any of our games, always separate teams, separate resources. The folks working on the single player campaign always have the resources and support to complete that portion of the game to the vision they planned for,” he revealed.
