According to numerous anonymous tips from Massively, Square-Enix has laid off a number of undisclosed employees at its rather young Los Angeles office. The departments affected weren’t disclosed, but again, the reason seems to be “increased efficiency”.
Square Enix senior director of public relations Riley Brennan stated, “In order to ensure it is operating effectively, the Square Enix Los Angeles office has reduced its workforce. This was a difficult decision and we wish the best for those affected by these changes. The decision will not have any impact on the operations of MMO titles. Customers can expect those services to continue, including the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.”
Could this be another sign of Square-Enix bursting at the seams, due to the previous failure of Final Fantasy XIV? One thing is for sure though: No matter where you are, no one is safe from the unemployment epidemic. Hopefully those who’ve been laid off will find new work soon.
