Disney CEO: “Taking Stock of Everything” Concerning Video Game Violence

In regards to its own titles, of course.

Whether it’s the newest shooting or just another controversy rocking society, the United States of America is as concerned with the portrayal of violence in video games as ever. As usual, some developers are going with the flow but Disney prefers to play things close to the chest.

As Chairman and CEO Robert Iger states at Q&A session during the HRTS Newsmakers Luncheon, “At Disney there’s very little [violent content], but I still want to make sure we’re asking ourselves the right questions in terms of that standard and also [ensure] we’re willing to be a part of a dialogue in today’s world that I think is pretty necessary in terms of what our role is and what our role should be.”

How does he plan to do that? Well, by taking “stock in everything we’ve got that can be considered near the line or over the line,” according to Deadline.

Again, this is Disney. Whatever violence does make it into their titles is heavily fantastical and no where near the level of realism a Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed will present. So stunt that can somewhat assuage the fears of parents everywhere regarding gaming in general is welcome, if not overly game-changing.
