Capcom’s Ninja Theory developed reboot of the Devil May Cry series, DmC just came out a few days back, and while it received general acclaim from several media outlets, including us, its sales have been falling behind expectations.

While DmC debuted on the UK Charts right on top, it actually sold sell than the 2008 title Devil May Cry 4 did in its launch week, despite having three extra days on the market.

It didn’t do very well in Japan either, selling half as much as Devil May Cry 4 did in its launch week in the region.

As a result of all this, Capcom has reduced its targets for DmC considerably. While the publisher originally intended to have shipped 2 million units of DmC by the end of the fiscal year, the expected figures have been brough down drastically to 1.2 million. This is after the fact that 1 million units have already been shipped, meaning that sales are obviously slow.

Of course, the PC sales figures are not being counted by Capcom right now, but surely this spells trouble for the series. Capcom did say it doesn’t want the franchise to die, but it remains to be seen just what they will do if the Ninja Theory developed reboot isn’t as successful as they wanted it to be.
