Sony On Strong PS4 Developer Support: ‘Can You See If One’s Missing?’

The PlayStation 4 has so far enjoyed a strong press coverage, developer praise and general buzz in the gaming industry. Sony have also revealed the strong launch titles and the long list of developer support that they will have for the PS4.

During the past few years the industry has changed. Once PlayStation exclusive franchises have gone multiplatform and the increase in development costs is not helping matters as well.

Initially the PlayStation 3 got a lot of  inferior version of multiplatform titles (example: Bayonetta) but Sony have done a great job in churning out exclusives and taking risks with new IP’s from their first party studios.

When Fergal Gara, PlayStation UK MD was asked if exclusive games or optimized multiplatform games will be the way to go for the PS4, he replied: ” I think content will always matter. It’s one of the reasons why it’s essential to have first-party studios.”

DriveClub was the best of the lot.

“So the role of first-party exclusives, I see as remaining important and you know, it depends on how the competitive landscape pans out as to whether there’s this battle for an extra slice of this or an extra feature of that between version A or version B. So it sort of depends on how the competitive landscape looks”, he said to NowGamer.

He also boasted of the strong support they have. “But we’ve delighted we’ve got a great first-party line-up in the bag and great publisher support. You saw the logos last night. It was ‘can you see if one’s missing?’, you know? Rather than ‘who’s in?’”

With already a number of multiplatform games like Destiny, Assassin’s Creed 4 and Witcher 3 due for the PlayStation 4, backed up with a strong first party support, Sony are surely taking the right steps forward.
