Xbox Live accounts of high profile Microsoft executives hacked

You get what you pay for or something like that. The Verge is reporting that Xbox Live accounts of high profile Microsoft executives have been breached and the company is calling it a vile act of social engineering.

Because that’s how you can ever get hacked, right? The attacks happened due to loopholes in third-party apps (hello FIFA), and it also involves US social security numbers.

“We are aware that a group of attackers are using several stringed social engineering techniques to compromise the accounts of a handful of high-profile Xbox LIVE accounts held by current and former Microsoft employees,” Microsoft’s statement read.

“We are actively working with law enforcement and other affected companies to disable this current method of attack and prevent its further use. Security is of critical importance to us and we are working every day to bring new forms of protection to our members.”

Microsoft does not collection vital personal information so they are not at fault.

“Microsoft does not collect or use Social Security numbers in its services, including Xbox LIVE Gamertags or Microsoft accounts. Attackers are targeting high-profile Microsoft employees by social engineering other companies that do use this data to intercept security proofs from Microsoft to compromise the accounts.”

Well, they are investigating this issue and if it’s anything like those FIFA hacks, they probably won’t do anything about it, however, since Microsoft executives have been the ones attacked here, you never know.
