Sony Computer Entertainment has announced a partnership with Unity Technologies to bring development tools and the Unity Engine to optimize development for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Mobile.

The power of Unity holds two key advantages for Sony’s platforms. Not only will it negate the need to rely on complex programming, but now developers can easily port games between different PlayStation platforms without rewriting code from scratch.

On another hand, Unity devs can also benefit from the partnership and incorporate PlayStation specific features like dual analog control, rear touchpad support, Cloud services and SixAxis support.

CEO of Unity Technologies David Helgason stated, “We are excited to be able to help Unity’s massive ecosystem reach out to SCE’s incredible platforms. The kaleidoscopic innovation, high quality, and production velocity that our rich developer community brings will help drive the success of the future game development.”

Unity devs can also utilize tons of tips and tutorials, make use of free scripts and shaders, along with over 6000 asset packagaes from the Unity Asset Store digital marketplace.
