Dead Rising, Capcom’s other zombie series, has been traditionally noted to have been over the top and outlandish. That seems to be changing with Dead Rising 3, though, the new, Xbox One exclusive sequel that was announced yesterday. Josh Bridge, executive producer at Capcom Vancouver told Polygon that unlike in the previous two games, the zombies in Dead Rising 3 are individually terrifying and formidable adversaries, in addition to being dangerous en masse.
“They’re much more aggressive,” Bridge said. “They hear and see you and they can make sound to tell each other when they see you.”
Zombies communicating by sound turns out to be an important gameplay feature, because it means the game’s protagonist can use that to his advantage, to distract zombies while he makes his escape.
In addition, they also worked on the anatomy of the zombies, to make each kill feel more real, gruesome, and tactile.
There are multiple other changes to the series too- you can earn attribute points and customize your character to some extent as you level him up. The game also now features autosave, although it’s debatable whether this is exactly an improvement.
In addition to this, the game features improvements like SmartGlass support, and a new Nightmare mode for more hardcore players.
Dead Rising 3 is an Xbox One exclusive that was announced yesterday. Stay tuned
